Cashback & Rewards Credit Cards
Cashback and rewards cards can be useful when their reward rules match the spending you already do. The headline reward rate is only one part of the calculation.
Check eligible categories
A card may reward some categories differently from others. Certain transactions can be excluded altogether, so read the current issuer conditions.
Look for caps and minimum spends
A reward rate can be subject to monthly, statement-cycle or transaction limits. Some benefits may also require a minimum spend or other condition.
Understand redemption
Points and miles are not automatically equal to cash. Check how rewards are redeemed, whether there are minimum thresholds, expiry rules or redemption fees.
Compare the annual fee
Estimate your realistic annual reward and compare it with the card's recurring costs. A lower headline rate can sometimes be more useful if the fee structure suits your usage.
