CREDITMARKETS GUIDE
CIBIL Score & Credit Card Eligibility
Credit card approval is decided by the issuing bank. Credit history can be one part of the assessment, alongside income, employment, existing obligations, application information and the bank's internal policy.
Why credit history matters
A history of timely repayments can help demonstrate responsible borrowing behaviour. A weak or limited history does not automatically tell you whether a particular issuer will approve an application.
What else can matter?
Issuers may consider income, employer or business profile, existing credit exposure, recent applications, address and other information. Each bank can use its own criteria.
Before you apply
- Check the eligibility information for the exact card.
- Keep your application information accurate and consistent.
- Avoid submitting unnecessary applications simply to test eligibility.
- Review fees and benefits before applying.
Important: A CIBIL score shown in a comparison tool is guidance only. It is not an approval guarantee and cannot override an issuer's underwriting decision.
